Beard transplant: get the perfect beard
A full, well-shaped beard is something many men dream of. But not everyone is blessed with beautiful beard growth. Fortunately, there is a solution: beard transplantation. This cosmetic procedure is becoming increasingly popular and allows men to get the beard they dream of. Are you considering a beard transplant? We will be happy to inform you about this treatment so that you enter into the treatment without any uncertainty. And that with a treatment plan specific to your personal situation and beard growth. After all, every face is unique - and so are you and your beard.
How does a beard transplant work?
A beard transplant usually uses the Sapphire hair transplant technique. In this process, hairs are individually transplanted from the back of the head to the beard area. Incisions are made in the desired areas of the beard, where the transplanted hairs are then inserted. After about 2 weeks, the transplanted hairs fall out, after which new hairs begin to grow. After 9 to 12 months, the result of the treatment is at its best and you can really enjoy a beautiful, full beard.

Frequently asked questions
What is that, a beard transplant?
A nice full beard is not a given for every man. Beard and moustache growth are partly hereditary. If you are experiencing problems with beard growth, a beard transplant can offer a solution. Using the modern FUE technique, both the beard and moustache and/or sideburns are filled in. A beard transplant is also possible if illness or an accident has caused the loss of beard growth.
How does a beard transplant work?
Fire transplantation is applied using the FUE hair transplantation method. A micro motor is used to harvest the required number of hair follicles from your hair crown. You will not notice this harvesting process, as the skin is locally anaesthetised. The harvested hair follicles are checked for quality and prepared for replacement in your beard. The direction of growth is taken into account during reinsertion, so that the result is extremely natural.
Why do I have insufficient uterine growth?
Beard growth can be naturally perceived as too little. It also happens that beard hairs are permanently lost due to an accident or illness. Many men are annoyed by the fact that beard growth does not look nice or incomplete. Striving for a perfect beard can cause a lot of irritation, especially if the desired beard growth fails to materialise. A beard transplant can then offer a solution. The reasons for lack of sufficient beard growth are personal. In most cases, however, a solution is possible.
Is everyone eligible for a beard transplant?
If you have insufficient beard and/or moustache hair, you may be eligible for a beard transplant. The lack of hair may be either hereditary or caused by disease and/or trauma. To make beard transplantation possible, the presence of sufficient donor body material is essential. Your suitability will be assessed during a consultation.
What do I look like after a beard transplant
The treated skin needs time to recover from the beard transplant. This applies to both the beard area and the donor area. Your skin may be slightly swollen and red as well as blue discolourations may be visible. These symptoms are all temporary in nature and gradually subside in the days following the beard transplantation.
Is a beard transplant painful?
No, you will not experience any pain during the procedure. Both the donor area and your beard area are locally anaesthetised. Pain may occur once the anaesthetics have worn off. This too is temporary and can be treated with a painkiller. Does the pain last longer? If so, please contact us.
Are the results immediately visible?
As with a hair transplant, you need patience after a beard transplant. Both your skin and the hair growth process recover. A normal body reaction is the falling out of the transplanted hairs. This happens 2 to 4 weeks after the beard transplant. The first new hair growth becomes visible 2 to 3 months after the procedure. Before a final result can be spoken of, 9 to 12 months pass. While the results are developing, you can treat the beard hairs as you wish and/or are used to. Shaving, trimming is perfectly possible.
Are the results of beard transplantation permanent?
Yes, the transplanted hair follicles will continue to produce hair throughout your life. As you age, however, the hair may become thinner.
Can it happen that I am not suitable for a beard transplant?
Unfortunately, your eligibility is not obvious. Therefore, a consultation will always take place first in which the cause of the lack of beard hair is examined. If you are dealing with untreated Alopecia areata or trichotillomania, for example, a beard transplant may not be recommended. Active skin infections may also be grounds for a negative recommendation.
Is it possible to undergo beard transplantation under full anaesthesia?
No, beard transplants are not performed under full anaesthetic. Your skin is anaesthetised locally, so you will hardly notice the procedure at all. It is common for men to say they are very reluctant to have a beard transplant. This is nothing to be ashamed of. If you express your worries and/or fears beforehand, a sedative can be used. You will then be able to sit more relaxed in the treatment chair, allowing the treatment to proceed smoothly.
How long does a beard transplant take?
Beard transplantation is both an intensive and precise procedure. The scope may not be as extensive as a complex hair transplant, but implanting the hairs in your beard area in particular requires extreme attention and precision. After all, the aim is to place the hairs in the natural growth direction of your beard hair to ensure a beautiful result. You should count on a treatment day of 6 to 8 hours.
Can I expect a natural result?
Our experienced doctors carefully select the hairs to be transplanted. They look for hairs that fit your beard area. The hairs match the existing beard hairs both in colour and structure. Placement of the harvested hair follicles is done in the natural growth direction. This makes the results extremely precise and true to nature.
What are the benefits of beard transplantation?
Men who are dissatisfied with their beard and/or moustache hair may benefit from beard transplantation. The procedure offers a permanent solution to the lack of sufficient beard hair. GlobalHair applies the FUE hair transplant technique, which means that any scarring is non-existent. Both the procedure and the recovery go smoothly for most men. The results achieved are good and permanent in nature.
Can I positively influence the results?
Yes, by following the tips and advice you receive. This includes postponing intense exercise, heavy physical work, swimming and visiting the sauna for a week to a fortnight. Give your skin time to recover from the beard transplant. In particular, do not expose your skin to unprotected sunlight for the first month after the procedure. It is recommended to protect the skin with a high SPF factor.
When can I expect the final result?
The development of a beard transplant is similar to a regular FUE hair transplant. Hair growth is simply faster in some people than in others. Immediately visible results are an illusion. To avoid disappointment, it is good to know that after the beard transplant and the fall-out of transplanted hairs, new hair growth becomes visible after 2 to 3 months. It is only after 9 to 12 months that the final result is achieved.
Can I shave and/or trim my beard?
After the procedure, you will be given instructions on how to care for both the skin and the transplanted hairs. It is perfectly possible to care for the new hair growth as you wish. Shaving, trimming and cutting are all possible.
How many grafts are transplanted in beard transplantation?
It depends on your wishes and expectations, among other things. During a consultation at our Dutch office, your current beard growth is examined. You will receive a treatment recommendation including the number of hair follicles that can be transplanted for optimal results.
Will the cost of a beard transplant be covered by insurance?
Most beard and hair transplants are undergone for cosmetic reasons. Purely cosmetic treatments are almost never reimbursed by health insurers. If there are psychological or medical reasons, reimbursement may be possible with the application of strict conditions. You will have to be able to prove both a medical and psychological need. More information on conditions and reimbursement options is available from your health insurer.
Is it possible to pay for a beard transplant in instalments?
Yes, GlobalHair works with mijnbetaalplan.nl for this purpose. To qualify for an instalment payment, a lender will look at your BKR situation. Of course, your income and expenses are also important. You will owe interest on the borrowed amount. This interest is variable and not fixed. Borrowing money costs money and makes the desired beard transplant more expensive.
Is beard transplantation safe?
Our ISHRS registered hair transplant specialists have extensive experience in applying FUE hair transplantation. The procedure is safe, but like any other treatment, has a small risk of complications. For instance, you may be allergic to the anaesthetics used or there may be a disturbed wound healing, possibly with an underlying infection. You can reduce the chances of developing side effects by listening carefully to and following the specialist's advice.
Do I need multiple treatments?
No, most men have achieved the desired results after a beard transplant.
I have a scar on my chin, can it be hidden with a beard transplant?
Yes, thanks to continuous improvement in options and technology, scars can be treated with beard transplantation. However, the prerequisite for this is usually that it is not fresh scar tissue. New scars, younger than a year, can only be treated later.
Is there anything else I need to know before a beard transplant?
Good results are achieved with beard transplantation. It is a radical treatment that you should think about thoroughly in advance and prepare yourself for it whenever possible. Not every hair transplant clinic has the experience to carry out a successful beard transplant. Meet several specialists and get informed about beard transplantation in different ways. The GlobalHair consultants in Leiden will introduce you to the modern, luxury clinic in Istanbul. Even after the operation, you can come to Leiden with all your questions about the recovery, the results and any side effects.
